Favorite Movies from Each Year of My Life

This is a fun little idea I got from an online movie group I belong to.  I have figured out my favorite movie from each year that I've been alive.  If I've reviewed a movie, I've linked the title to that review.

1980 -- The Ninth Configuration
1981 -- Raiders of the Lost Ark
1983 -- The Return of the Jedi
1984 -- Romancing the Stone
1985 -- Anne of Green Gables
1986 -- Three Amigos
1987 -- The Princess Bride
1988 -- Willow
1989 -- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

1990 -- Hamlet
1991 -- Oscar
1992 -- Aladdin
1993 -- The Fugitive
1994 -- Little Women
1996 -- Emma
1997 -- L. A. Confidential
1998 -- The Mask of Zorro
1999 -- 10 Things I Hate About You

2000 -- X-Men
2001 -- The Fellowship of the Ring
2002 -- The Bourne Identity
2006 -- Amazing Grace
2008 -- Australia

2010 -- Tangled
2011 -- True Grit
2012 -- The Avengers
2016 -- Rogue One
2019 -- Midway

Any surprises here?  Any favorites we share?

  1. Between you and Eva-Joy, I'm going to have a time figuring out favorite movies from different years . . .

Loved this! I don't think I was surprised by any of them, but it was fun to see N&S and P&P make the top cut for those years!

    1. Olivia, lol! I'm working on doing a post like hers too, and it does have some similarities to this one.

Glad you dug this! I'm not surprised that there were few surprises ;-)

  3. This is such a fun idea, I'm going to have to try this and Eva's idea too. I feel like I might have lots of ties. I need to get better at keeping up on my movies. I tried Letterbox but it would duplicate stuff so then I switched to Excel and then forget to fill it out. Also its embarrassing to face the fact that a majority of them are Hallmark.

    1. Thanks, Livia! I hope you have fun figuring out your own.

I keep a record of the movies I watch in my journal, and also in a leather book where I list off all the movies I watched and books I read in a particular month. I've lost too many lists online when services ended or computers crashed.

What's embarrassing about loving Hallmark movies? They're generally sweet and clean and cheerful. Good stuff. I just don't watch them because... I don't get TV channels. But my mom loves them.

    2. I love this list and I love that you keep track of the movies you watch! I have a book journal to keep track of all the books I finish each month, but it has never occurred to me to keep track of movies the same way. I will be starting that now for sure. Thanks for the idea! I watched the 2011 Jane Eyre for the first time yesterday, which was awesome, so that will be my first one in my journal. I think I'll sit down sometime and brainstorm to see how many movies I can remember watching in my lifetime...that could be fun!

    3. Becky, I do the same thing with books, in the same notebook. Each two-page spread has books read on the left page and movies watched on the right page. I've been journaling since I was 14, and so last year, I went back through all my old journals and pulled all the books and movies out from them so I now have a reading-and-watching record from more than 25 years of my life. It's so fun to look back through and see things like, "Oh, that's when I saw North and South (2004) the first time, and here's how long it was before I found the book and read it too," and so on.

The 2011 Jane Eyre is very good :-) Excellent first entry for your journal!

  4. Rogue One, Thor: Ragnorak, and Solo are all favorites of mine as well. Ragnorak is one of the very few Marvel movies I've actually seen multiple times. I just find it smashingly enjoyable. The "Immigrant Song" alone? I rest my case, folks.

  5. Great and fun idea! I'm very satisfied to see Willow and Amazing Grace on here because those are two of my all time favorites and I feel that they aren't commonly known about. I'm very pleased that since I've been reading your blog for awhile that many of these were not surprises. :-)

    1. MC, high five for also loving Willow and Amazing Grace! I know that Willow was a pretty big hit back when it came out, but has since fallen into semi-obscurity. It's so good, though. I should review it sometime.

Amazing Grace only came to my attention because it has Ioan Gruffudd in it, and I've been a fan for decades. Such a good, good film.
