Summer To-Do List Wrap-Up

Time to weigh in on what I checked off my to-do list this summer.  I had an insanely busy summer, but that means I got a lot done, right?  Really looking forward to a more relaxed fall.  Anyway, here are all the things I checked off between Memorial Day and Labor Day... and the ones I failed at.

~ Publish Dancing and Doughnuts in August  Check!  This took up soooo much of my energy and time, but I did it.  Whew.  You can now buy it from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Books-a-Million.

~ Read all five INSPY Awards finalists for the mystery/suspense category, which I'm judging.  Check!  Once again, that was a wonderful experience.

~ Read The Harvest Raise by Katie Schuermann Check!  My review is here.

(From my Instagram account.)

~ Read 2 books for my Classics Club list  Check!  I read Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie and Famous Gunfighters of the Western Frontier by W. B. "Bat" Masterson

~ Read 3 other books from my TBR shelves  Check!  I read SEVEN.  It was a good summer.  I read:

(More Bookstagramming)

~ Watch 5 movies from my TBW shelves  Check!  I watched six:

  • Guns of the Timberland (1960)
  • Another Thin Man (1939)
  • Rumble Fish (1983)
  • Shadow of the Thin Man (1941)
  • Good Day for a Hanging (1959)
  • Saigon (1948)

~ Go see Solo: A Star Wars Story  Check!  Here's what I thought of it.

~ Go see Ocean's 8  Fail.  Hoping to see it on DVD soon.

~ Go see Incredibles 2  Check!  I really enjoyed it.

~ Go see Ant-Man and the Wasp  Check!  Here are my thoughts on it.

~ Go see Mission: Impossible -- Fallout  Check!  My thoughts are here.

Make these Creamy Lemon Icepops  Check!  They weren't a huge hit, to be honest.  I liked them, but my kids didn't like the bits of lemon peel in them.

~ Make these Chocolate Mint Greek Yogurt Pops  Fail.  It's going to be hot for a few more weeks, so maybe I'll still get around to them.

~ Clean up the giant junk pile that has accumulated in my bedroom again  Fail.  AGAIN.

~ Order photos Fail.  Again.  :-(

~ Teach Mad Dog to tie her shoelaces  Semi-fail.  She knows how, but she hates doing it.

~ Visit the Ark Encounter Check!   It was amazing.  We all learned so much there!

~ Go on a hike someplace I've never been before  Check!  We went on several when we were in South Dakota, and I loved them.

That's all, folks!  I'm working on my autumn to-do list and will have that up soon.

Did you check anything off your list of things to do or places to go this summer?

  1. I have seen the first and the last of the Thin Man movies, but I really want to see the ones in the middle!

I wanted to see Oceans 8! I even checked my theater to make sure it was playing, but when my mom and I got there, they were playing Incredibles 2! We watched that, and I liked it better than the origanal.

    1. MC, I saw the first 3 or 4 when I was first married, but never managed to see the last few. I bought the whole set at an estate sale a couple years ago, and we decided to watch all of them this year. Just a few more to go!

Theaters are so weird like that sometimes. Grr. Don't have advertised showtimes if you're not going to stick with them. Glad you liked Incredibles 2 tho!

  2. Ooooooooh, Ocean's 8! I really hope you can see that one soon--I enjoyed it greatly and I feel like you would, too.

    1. Jessica, I like the Oceans movies overall, and Sandra Bullock is one of my favorite actresses, so I'm determined to see this.

  3. I am soooo impressed! All I got done this summer was move halfway across the country ... Well, that was an overwhelming event which will probably never end, but I'd like to have something I can say "Check!" to. Congrats, Rachel!

    1. Mom, yeah, you only packed up every last one of your worldly possessions and moved them to an entirely new home. No big deal.

      Thanks :-)

  4. You look like you were very successful to me! :) And oh, I just read Murder on the Orient Express too! It was my first Agatha Christie book! I think I may have found a new favourite author. ;)

Also, I saw the Fallout (MI) movie... phew, it was intense! The first MI film I've sat down and watched all the way through, let alone in a big cinema!

And same - I was hoping to see Ocean's 8 as well, but didn't get around to it. :/

Well, I just finished my winter, and didn't really have time for extra project stuff so much. Mostly school progress. ;) Oh, and I got a job (at a cafe)!

    1. Gabby, I feel successful, in a breathless sort of way. It was a full summer, for sure.

How fun that you're discovering Agatha Christie! I read a lot of her books in high school. Hope you have access to more.

Yeah, M:I:Fallout was intense. Still deciding how I feel about it.

Congrats on the job! Do you like it?

    2. Yes, my library has quite a few of AC's books! I hope to make good use of that. :D Any recommendations?

Yes, I love my job! I work at a cafe with my sister (it's owned by our friends, too, who we work with!)... and I get to do a bit of everything - dishes, cooking, drinks, serving... it's challenging and exciting. :)

    3. Gabby, it's been years and years since I read much of Christie, which is why I picked this one up to reread! I remember liking some of hers a lot and disliking some of hers a lot, but all the titles have blurred at this point. Have fun discovering them yourself!

Sounds like a fun job! I'm glad you enjoy it :-)

  5. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that summer is essentially over, what a short, mild summer.

My sisters and I ADORE the Thin Man movies.

    1. Livia, ahhh, it was cool where you are? It was pretty hot here -- which is normal. In the 90s for a couple months.

The Thin Man movies are adorable, that's all there is to it.

  6. You got so much done!

I haven't seen Oceans 8 yet, but I don't think I will like it as much as the previous films.

    1. Skye, I did. I'm kind of astonished how much I got done, actually. Since I was gone for 3 weeks AND the book consumed me for weeks and weeks.

I didn't like Ocean's 12 much at all, so I figure I'll like 8 at least as much as that one. Plus I quite like several actresses who are in it.

  7. I buy shoes that slip on (no laces), even my work shoes which are steel-toed. I don't do it because I hate to tie laces. I do it because I hate to tie laces 20 times a day... They always came undone...

    1. Quiggy, I just got myself the comfy Momming job where I don't have to wear shoes unless I leave my property. Barefoot is always better <3

But I do have to wear shoes more than I used to cuz it helps keep my achilles tendonitis at bay. Phooey.
