Another meme from DKoren....
1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. No googling/using IMDb search functions. Cheating is for losers!
So here are my fifteen. Let the games begin!
1.
"I hope we have a lot of boys so we can name them all after you." (
Charade, Maggie)
2.
"Send her a telegram -- date it back fourteen years!" (
Guys and Dolls, Cowboy)
3.
Character 1: "I thought you didn't care."
Character 2: "I don't. [laughs] Don't tell anyone, okay?" (
The Fugitive, DKoren)
4.
"Do I like Jell-o?" (
While You Were Sleeping, Maggie)
5. "The paint is peeling on the ceiling." (Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory)6. "How could I forget about you? You're the only person I know." (Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity)7.
Character 1: "I give you my word as a Spaniard."
Character 2: "No good! I've known too many Spaniards." (
The Princess Bride, Maggie)
8.
"When will you give up this ridiculous obsession with love?" (
Moulin Rouge, Laura)
9. "I figure you can go through life thinkin' everyone's your friend, or no one is." (Kevin Kline in Silverado)10.
Character 1: "What's the first thing you do when a horse bucks you off?"
Character 2: "You don't let him beat you, you get straight back on." (
The Man from Snowy River, Mom)
11.
"None of us should wander alone, least of all you." (
The Fellowship of the Ring, DKoren)
12.
"There comes a time when you need to turn mother's picture to the wall and get out." (
The Magnificent Seven, Cowboy)
13.
Character 1: "That's quite a dress you almost have on. What keeps it up?"
Character 2: "Modesty." (
An American in Paris, Maggie)
14.
"Now I'm orderin' you to get off this property!" (
The Sons of Katie Elder, DKoren)
15.
"Me, I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest." (
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, DKoren)
hee! Those are good, and I don't know quite a few of them. Some I have to think on.
ReplyDeleteBut the ones I do know:
3. The Fugitive
11. FoTR (That's one of my favorite lines too!)
14. Sons of Katie Elder!
15. "Honestly!" Cap'n Jack! Pirates! This quote makes me laugh and laugh, particularly the way he says it.
7. The Princess Bride! I just bought it at Wal Mart yesterday!! Love that movie!!
ReplyDeleteMaggie
I'm probably wrong, but #14 looks like a line from "Home On the Range". A cartoon, yes, but one of my, er, um, Drew's favorites. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMaggie
DKoren, right on all 4 counts :-D And there are several more you definitely should know.
ReplyDeleteMaggie -- right on The Princess Bride , wrong on Home on the Range. And yes, TPB is one of the bestest movies!
I want to say 10 is "Giant," just because it sounds like something from that movie. You think I'd know for sure, having watched it only a couple weeks ago, but, alas, none of it really stuck in my head. (Oooh -- or 1 is from Giant! Sounds like something Ms. Taylor might say.) Ack! Confused.
ReplyDeleteI feel I should know 6 and 9. And 4 sounds awfully familiar, but I can't place it at all yet.
2, 5, 8, 12, and 13 -- nothing rings a bell.
Lol, nope, neither of those are from Giant.
ReplyDelete6 you might know, 9 you should, 4 you might. There're a couple more you will kick yourself for.
4 isn't "Meet Joe Black," is it? Probably not, cuz I can't imagine that movie as one of your favorite movies, LOL, and his thing was peanut butter, not jello. Hee.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
9 is familiar, but I can't hear it in any particularly voice yet.
2. Guys and Dolls.
ReplyDelete12. The Magnificent Seven.
4.While You Were Sleeping
ReplyDeleteI believe that #8 is Moulin Rouge.
ReplyDeleteLaura
(Dingo's Mom)
P.S. I'm pretty sure I've seen #13 but I can't think of it yet.
#13 - *smacks self in head. hard.* An American In Paris
ReplyDeleteHow could I miss one of my favorite Gene Kelly lines? D'oh!
I maybe - maybe - would have gotten "Oh phooey, I burned the darn muffin." I'm not a quoter.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what element of human nature makes us quote things, and if us quoting movies is exactly the way Greeks would quote Homer, or if it's different.
DKoren -- I do like Meet Joe Black, but it's not in my top 15. You really should get 9, though.
ReplyDeleteCowboy -- good boy!
Laura -- I didn't know you read my blog :-D Nice work!
Maggie -- two more good ones! I was wondering why you didn't get the Gene Kelly line, cuz I know you're a fan of his :-D
Noumenon -- you are too a quoter, just not of movies. If it was top 15 Buffy quotes, I bet you could guess most of the eps. I think we quote things because we a) like to show off, and b) find it an easy way to identify ourselves with something that other people can recognize. If I say, "Oh phooey, I burned the darn muffins," you then know that I like action movies that are not entirely mainstream. And that I have a good memory ;-) If you also like non-blockbuster action movies, then you know we have common ground. If you also have a good memory, lol.
Okay, none of the ones posted beyond the four I guessed I would have ever figured out on my own. Not even the Mag 7 one -- I've seen that movie how many times? I've NEVER heard that line. Couldn't even tell you who said it right now. Guess I'd better watch the film again. Oh, the agony...
ReplyDelete9, however, is still on the tip of my tongue, and I will probably kick myself when you post the answer. LOL!
Okay, Hamlette, One of your first movies you ever watched is number 10 - Man from Snowy River (otherwise known to us as "Jim and Jessica")
ReplyDeleteDad says he knows some, but won't tell me :-(
I also knew #3
A couple others are familiar, but you know my memory... "Say goodbye to your mother..."
DKoren -- I can't believe you don't know that Mag 7 line! Johnnycake and I used to quote it alllllll the time! It's said by Harry when he decides he wants to leave.
ReplyDeleteMom -- very good on number 10! I knew you or Dad would get it, whichever of you got to the computer first. And #3, of course.
I will wait until Dad's had a chance to hop on and make guesses about the last few, and then I'll post the answers.
It's said by Harry when he decides he wants to leave.
ReplyDeleteEven knowing who says it and where... nope, still doesn't ring the slightest bell. But... Harry?? Like I've ever paid attention to anything Harry says! :-D I ran it by Laura, who's seen Mag 7 as many times I as I have and she also just shook her head. Stumped us both with that one!!
I don't think it is, but 9 isn't from We're No Angels, is it? I can't place it, if it is, but I thought I'd throw it out there. You always throw me when you start dropping your g's from things, and I start thinking they can only be Westerns, therefore, but I can't figure any other Western that'd be on here except Tombstone, and since I've only seen that film once, there's no chance I'll ever get any quotes from it, if one is lurking here. Hee.
Could #1 possibly be Charade?
ReplyDeleteDKoren -- Ok, you HAVE to rewatch Mag 7, moral imperative. And 9 is not "We're No Angels" OR "Tombstone," though the latter is my #16 favorite movie.
ReplyDeleteMaggie -- bing! bing! bing! Give the lady a cigar! #1 is indeed from the very end of "Charade." Yay, you!
I think #9 is spoken by John Wayne, but WHICH movie is it? We've seen so many of them.
ReplyDeleteNope, sorry, it's not John Wayne. Good guess, though!
ReplyDeleteSince it's been a full week, I'm posting the answers to the last three. Thanks for playing, everyone!
