Announcing We Love Superheroes Week!

It's a blogathon!  It's a blog party!  It's... We Love Superheroes Week!

I hinted about this last month, and today I am ready to make it official.  I had so much fun last year hosting the Jane Austen Week that I decided to make it a sort of annual shindig:  party time at Hamlette's the week of Valentine's Day.  Only every year, we'll have a different theme.  And this year, that theme is superheroes!

Like last year's party, there will be so many fun things to do that we'll need all week to hold them all.  A giveaway.  A blog tag to fill out.  A game or two.  And a blogathon.

And you are hereby invited to participate! If you love superheroes too, be they in comic books, movies, TV shows, video games, or what have you, please mark this down on your calendar. Figure out how you're going to share your love of superheroes via your blog or website.  Then sign up with your blogathon entry in the comments on this post.

You can do a movie review, a character sketch, a game, an ode to why a particular superhero is your favorite -- the possibilities are basically only limited by your imagination.  It just has to involve super-powered individuals.  If you're not sure if your idea will work, feel free to ask!

Because there are gazillions of superheros and things about superheroes, we can only have one review per individual movie.  However!  Obviously you can come up with a way to talk about a franchise as a whole, or a particular character's arc over a series of films, etc., even if someone has already spoken for one movie.  So if someone says they're going to review Thor: Ragnarok, and someone else says they're doing a character sketch of Thor, you could still do a post on Thor and Loki's evolving relationship over the course of the Thor films, for example.  (Also, please, somebody write that post.  I want to read it.)

So if you've got an adaptation or character you really love and want to blog about for this event, sign up the sooner, the better! The list of claimed entries will be at the end of this post.

Also, I got kind of carried away with the buttons.  Feel free to use any of them that strike your fancy.  Put them on your blog, post them to Facebook, use them to invite your friends whenever, wherever, and however!

  1. Yay! How cool! I am definitely going to participate. Hm... can I claim The Incredibles (2004)?

  2. Mwah-ha-ha - Captain Hammer is by far the best of the buttons. Absolutely LOVE that one. This will be really fun. I have no ideas about what to write currently, but I'm sure I'll think of something.

    1. DKoren, I miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight have created that button with you in mind. Maybe.

Let me know when you figure out a topic!

    2. Well, how about Doctor Strange, then. It's currently my favorite MCU movie, so I might as well talk about it! I don't think I ever reviewed it when it came out.

    3. DKoren, great! I will add that to the roster.

  3. I'm so in! I'd like to write a post about animated superhero movies that I've seen - Big Hero 6, Megamind, The LEGO Batman Movie, and The Incredibles. I've noticed someone's already taken The Incredibles, but as I'm not doing a bona fide review - only a paragraph or two about why I love the film/my thoughts on it - is it still okay?

    1. If it's okay with Hamlette, it is definitely okay with me! I would love to read that post!

    2. Great! Now we just have to see what she says. :)

    3. Sure, Eva, I'll put you down for an overview of animated superhero movies, I think that's different enough.

  6. This sounds like so much fun! I think I will TRY to do a post comparing the three Spider-Man characters (Tobey Maguire, vs. Andrew Garfield, vs. Tom Holland). I will have to get my thoughts together, though. Hopefully I can pull it off!

  7. Sounds great! I'm not particularly into superheroes--I must admit--but I will certainly be reading the contributed posts because it's fun. Hopefully there will be a few I have seen before and can make sense of! ;D

    2. You may be right. My sisters convinced me to watch Captain America for the first time tonight, and it was alright--not that I thought it would be bad or anything. Just not the sort of thing I'm usually into, you know.

    3. Yeah, superhero stories are not everybody's thing :-)

  8. Being a superhero ain't all it's cracked up to be. Just ask Ty Farrell ("The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space"). Or Roy, Eddie and Jeff (Mr. Furious, The Blue Rajah and The Shoveler in "Mystery Men") Or Stanley Ipkiss ("The Mask") And let's not forget that titan of bravado and heroism Ralph Hinkley ("The Greatest American Hero")

    1. Quiggy, this is true. You want to do a post on how hard superhero-ing is on a person?

      Delete
    2. More or less. I wanted to take a crack at an overview of superhero comedies, with reluctant or incompetent superheroes as a theme. Hence the beginning of the comment. The title will be "Being a Superhero Isn't All It's Cracked Up To Be". I won't go into great depth on any one film, so you could allow an in-depth content in another's blog. The four I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. I have several more that I will look at.

    3. Quiggy, okay, that sounds like it will be amusing!

    4. I've got it written already and ready to go. Had fun writing this one. Now if I can just hold out for a month before I post it... :-)

  9. Ooh, what a fun idea for a blog party! I wish I time to run a blog again, or even time to write a post (#college). I hope someone writes a post on The Rocketeer (1991)—it’s one of my very favorite movies, and so underrated!

    1. Claire, I hear you! I didn't start blogging until I'd finished college. The Rocketeer is awesome! Definitely an underrated gem. Maybe somebody will claim it!

  13. Ooh! I don't know that I could think of anything to blog about, but blog parties are always fun. :)

Also, haha, I loved your little note about, "Somebody write that post. I want to read it." XD

    1. Olivia, blog parties need participants who just go around reading people's posts and playing games too! That will be super fine :-)

Yeah, so far nobody has signed up to write that post. Hmm.

    1. Gill, well, usually for blogathons I prefer new posts written specifically for the event. Maybe instead, you could do a post linking to your reviews of various superhero films?

    2. No problem. Would like to join with Watchmen (2009)- is that one ok? Gill at Realweegiemidget Reviews
