Guest Review of "The Lone Ranger" (2013) Soundtrack

Yup, today I have a guest post up here on James the Movie Reviewer's blog, and it's the soundtrack for The Lone Ranger, which is one of my top ten favorite soundtracks ever.  And it's also the movie I get my sign-out picture from (and which of course is in my header right now) -- I sincerely love this movie.  Just watched it again last week, and oh, it is like coming home after a long, hard absence.

I reviewed it twice back when it first came out, here and here, if you want to know more about the movie and some of why I love it so.

  1. I do love that photo of the 4 guys in long coats. They look so . . . COOL.

Oh, BTW, I got a new laptop this weekend--and guess what I picked for my desktop slideshow? 4 photos from P&P 2005, 4 photos from Sense and Sensibility 2008, 1 photo from Seabiscuit, and 1 photo from Saving Mr. Banks. It looks pretty good, at least to me :)

    1. I have this big coffee table book about the making of The Lone Ranger, and it has that photo in a two-page spread. When I first turned to that page, I stopped breathing, started crying, and had to close the book because it was so powerful. I finally have gotten used to it enough to see it on a daily basis in my header, but it's still a very evocative image for me.

Sounds like a cool slideshow! I really need to see Seabiscuit.

    2. Oh, and the other pics in my header are (clockwise from the rangers) from The Man from Snowy River, The Big Valley, and Rio Bravo. Just in case you were curious.

    3. Definitely, watch Seabiscuit. It's AMAZING--even better than Secretariat, in my opinion. The three leads (Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper, and Tobey Maguire) are all fantastic.

I would HIGHLY recommend S&S 08, too, if you haven't seen it yet. All five of the main characters--Elinor, Edward, Colonel Brandon, Marianne, and Willoughby--are amazingly well cast, and really bring the story to life. And the cinematography is GORGEOUS.

    4. I haven't seen Secretariat yet either :-o Both are on my list! As is S&S08. My library has both Secretariat and Seabiscuit, but not S&S08, and it's not available on Amazon Prime Video either, so I'd have to either buy the DVD or subscribe to Hulu Plus to watch it. So it's not high on my to-watch list just because it's hard to get right now.

    5. Oh, dear--that's a shame! I know what you mean--sometimes it's really hard to get ahold of a particular movie for one reason or another. My library just happens to have the S&S 08 DVD, which is why I was able to watch it no problem. I hope you can get it someday, because I think you'd really love David Morrissey's Col.Brandon :) He's one of those strong, silent, "says-little-but-feels-much" chaps and I LOVE HIM.

    6. I like Col. Brandon very much indeed, both in the book and the '95 version. So I look forward to seeing it at some point! I keep my eye out for it at the used book store, so you never know, it might pop up for an irresistible price.

    7. I sure hope so! If you ever find a copy, please do tell me what you think :)
Oh--I really love your new header! It looks really cool and secret-agent-y.

    8. Thanks! DKoren and I are madly in love with The Man from UNCLE right now, and so we suddenly needed new headers yesterday.
