Movies I Want to See This Fall and Winter

I finally finished savoring Entertainment Weekly's Fall Movie Preview issue, and I thought that instead of just writing things down on my calendar to remind me when they come out, I'd also share them here with you.  So here are the movies I'm thinking I might want to see in the theater this fall:

October

The Martian (10-2-15), about Matt Damon being stuck on Mars.  I hear the book is awesome, and you know I love me some Matt Damon.

Pan (10-9-15), that Peter Pan movie with Hugh Jackman in a maniacal mustache.

Bridge of Spies (10-16-15), in which Tom Hanks goes behind the iron curtain to um... do lawyer stuff involving hostages.  Right now I'm wishing it also involved the United Network Command of Law and Enforcement too, of course, but I'll deal.

Suffragette (10-23-15), about British women fighting for their right to vote.  I'm in this one for the cast too:  Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Meryl Streep, and Ramola Garai!

(I'd like to see any of those in the theater, but I'd be okay with most of them on DVD.  I probably will make the most effort to see The Martian and Pan on the big screen.)

November

Spectre (11-6-15), the new James Bond movie.  What more is there to say?

Trumbo (11-6-15), about Dalton Trumbo, screenwriter of movies like Roman Holiday and Spartacus.

Creed (11-25-15), a Rocky spin-off!  That I didn't even know existed until I read this issue of EW!

I Saw the Light (11-27-15), where Tom Hiddleston plays Hank Williams.  And does all his own singing.

(I WILL see Spectre in the theater, and probably Creed.  The others, we'll see if they're showing around here or not.)

December

In the Heart of the Sea (12-11-15), based on the true story that inspired Moby-Dick.  Chris Hemsworth and tall ships and Ron Howard.

Star Wars:  The Force Awakens (12-18-15).  Enough said.

(I WILL see both of these in the theater, but possibly not until after Christmas, we'll see.)

Are any of these on your radar?

  1. Oh my goodness......I SAW THE LIGHT!!!!! I am SO excited to see that! Sadie and I found out about the movie back in June and we both had a slight heart attack. Hank Williams is her favorite, you see. And Tom Hiddleston...just too perfect. I hardly ever look forward to new movies, but I'm drooling over this one. :-)

    1. Emma, you and Sadie make me grin :-D Your enthusiasm is contagious, and you've now got me really hoping I get a chance to see that one in the theater!

  2. Hank Williams signed? ;)

Tom Hiddleston ought to be interesting, though, as Hank Williams.

To be honest, the only movie I'm still looking forward to this year, is Star Wars. Actually, that's the only movie I've been looking forward to this year.

    1. I'm quite sure Hank Williams signed. Autographs, that is.

I had 5 movies I was Super Excited About in 2015: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (liked, but didn't love), The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (loved!), Spectre, In the Heart of the Sea, and SW: The Force Awakens. So while my summer felt a little slack until UNCLE, my fall looks to be exciting!

  3. Yep, very happy for Star Wars and Pan, interested in Bridge of Spies and Spectre and then The Scorch Trials and the last Hunger Games film. Oh, and the 2nd Hotel Transylvania since I LOVED the first one. :)

    1. Carissa, I'm honestly not sure if I'm going to like Pan much, but I'll see it for Hugh.

I didn't see Transylvania Hotel. Maybe one of these days!

  4. I'm looking forward to Suffragette. I might also see Frankenstein and Crimson Peak, although I'm undecided on the latter -- ghost movies generally scare me half to death, so I'm not sure if the gothic gorgeousness of it would be worth being freaked out for a week. =P

    1. Charity, even the trailer for Crimson Peak freaked me out! I have a really hard time dealing with horror movies, so I'm totally not going near that one, despite the handsomeness of Tom Hiddleston.

  5. The Martian keeps growing in my interest. I think by the time it comes out I may have to see it in theaters! I also am very close to wanting to read the book. I've heard good things.

I'll watch anything for Tom Hiddleston. Bonus points if he sings. :D

I want to see The Heart of the Sea too. It looks pretty neat already, but with Hemsworth, and Cillian Murphy, and the new Spider-Man, I'd probably want to watch it anyway. :P

Star Wars. Enough said indeed. I can hardly believe how hard I'm anticipating this movie....!

Also excited for the next Maze Runner movie, coming out this month! :)

    1. Sarah, I have been waiting SO LONG for In the Heart of the Sea -- it was supposed to come out this spring, then got pushed back and back and back and back. If they're trying to make me go nuts with all this anticipation, well, they're doing a good job.

    2. Oh gosh, I didn't know that, that must have been terrible! Haha, I suppose it was hard for them to find a nice time to release it with all the huge blockbusters coming out this year. Right before Star Wars is an alright spot though, so hopefully it'll do well AND be worth the wait! :D

    3. Yeah, both it and Man from UNCLE were originally supposed to come out in like April, and then they got pushed back. I wish MFU had stayed there cuz then it wouldn't have had to compete with M:I so much. I assume ITHOTS got pushed back so it would get in on the awards season action.

  6. Spectre and Force Awakens are on my list. Of course! Pan and Trumbo are the other two I really want to see from your list.

We will probably go see The Good Dinosaur with the boy as well.

    1. DKoren, OF COURSE! You're probably more excited for both of those than I am, lol.

I don't know much about The Good Dinosaur yet, but I'm not real into dinos, so that'll probably just be an on-DVD-someday for me.

    2. Hello. Why yes, I'm back, lurking about. Soaking in some writing inspiration! :-D

    3. Hm, are you sure about that? Seems to me there was a comment over on my blog this morning...

    4. I did not lurk. I left a comment. (Read that in Illya's voice.)

  7. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS!!!!!
Yeah. Can't wait for that one.

  8. Pan looks like a fascinating adventure (origin) story. Cannot wait for it though I likely will see it on DVD. :)

    1. Rissi, I'm interested to see how different it is from the Peter and the Starcatchers series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which I find to be great fun.

  9. Suffragette and Pan are on my radar. Pan I will see on the big screen. Peter Pan was my favorite Disney movie as a child as well as my favorite book. Surprising for the pirates. So being able to see Hook as James Hook before he become the villain is going to be awesome.

    1. Carissa, the Mary Martin version of Peter Pan was one of the first videos we owned (I got it by eating a lot of cereal, IIRC), and we used to watch it allll the time when I was like 12. Nobody else in my family liked it as much as I did, oddly enough, but I thought it was hilarious and awesome.

  10. "Suffragette" looks amazing, and I'm looking forward to seeing "Pan" and "Star Wars VII" :D

    1. Olivia, every time I see the Suffragette trailer, I start singing the bit from Mrs. Banks' song in Mary Poppins that goes, "Take heart, for Mrs. Pankhurst has been clapped in irons again!" This makes me chuckle aloud, which is probably not hte response the movie's creators were going for. Still, it looks really good.

  11. What a list! I really feel like this is going to be a good autumn for movies. Personally, I'm most looking forward to Sufragette and also the last Hunger Games movie

    1. I agree, Birdie. While this summer was a bit disappointing, the autumn looks excellent.

Agree or disagree? That is the question...
