Ultimate Harry Potter Tag

I stole this from You, Me, and a Cup of Tea :-)  And I'm not sorry!  If you want to do it too, go right ahead.

Favorite Book --  Prisoner of Azkaban.  I thought the first two books were good, but not great.  When I got to the end of this one, though, I loved it suddenly and irrevocably, and I've read the last few chapters of it over and over and over.

Least Favorite Book -- Sorceror's Stone.  It has to spend so much time explaining the world that the story itself is awfully slight.

Favorite Movie -- Goblet of Fire.  It's so streamlined, so direct, and yet loses nothing truly important from the book.  The first three movies rambled and lurched from one adventure to the other, but this one soared.  (Could have used more Sirius Black, but they all could...)

Least Favorite Movie -- Chamber of Secrets.  Too many giant spiders.  "Why couldn't it be 'follow the butterflies'?"

Favorite Quote
(It's theologically off-kilter, but I like it anyway.)

Favorite Weasley -- Ron

Favorite Female Character -- Hermione Granger

Favorite Villain -- Lucius Malfoy

Favorite Male Character -- Sirius Black

Favorite Professor -- Severus Snape

Is there any character you felt differently about in the movies vs. the books -- I like Dumbledore better in the books.  He's gentler.

Is there a movie you prefer instead of the book -- No.

The top thing (person or event) which wasn't included in the movies that annoyed you the most -- um... there wasn't nearly enough Sirius Black in movies 4 and 5.

If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be -- None of them?  Unless you mean go back in time and fix them, in which case... let's make all the giant spiders implied instead of shown, shall we?

Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore (or other online sorting quiz?) -- I tend to come up Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Which class would be your favorite -- History of Magic.

(Source)

Which spell do you think would be the most useful to learn -- Accio.

Which character do you think at Hogwarts you'd instantly become best friends with -- Hermione.  Finally someone who understands the importance of doing all the homework!

If you could own one of the three hallows which would it be -- the Invisibility Cloak

Is there any aspect of the books you'd want to change -- I would shorten all that wandering around at the beginning of Deathly Hallows.

Favorite marauder -- Padfoot, obviously.

If you could bring one character back to life who would it be -- Sirius Black or Fred Weasley.  I cried very hard over both.

Hallows or Horcruxes -- Hallows, of course.  Much more useful.  Not to mention not possessed by an evil wizard and all that.

  1. To read that you would be friends with Hermione because she understands the importance of doing all the homework warms the cockles of my heart. Especially since I was your teacher the first 12 years of your school life! And also it assures me that you did your very best throughout your college years!!!

    1. Hee. I caught some flak at college for making other students look bad because I always did the homework. Hermione gets the same now and then, so I definitely sympathize with her.

(Your secret fears that I was partying my life away were for naught. Sorry!)

  2. Oooh yes yes yes! :D I love Snape too!! I felt so sorry for him at the end! My brother has never read the books so I thrust them at him and now he is on n.o 3 and hating snape. I'm trying not to spoil it for him but oh it's hard!

    PS: Which house are you?
    I'm a Ravenclaw

    1. Evie, yes, I feel so sad for Snape, wallowing in his bitterness. He's pretty tragic in his inability to let go of the past, and clearly he needs many hugs.

      I'm usually Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

  3. Love your answers (though I disagree on the fourth movie but I'll let it pass). ;) I'm with you on Hermione! Homework people! That frustrated me so much in college when students wouldn't do homework or only put a half-hearted effort into it.... and then they wondered why they're grade wasn't great!

    1. Lois, yes, I know we disagree on the 4th movie :-) That's okay!

Hooray for another homework doer! I mean, what IS the point of being at college, if you're not going to learn? We were paying thousands of dollars a year to be there -- why would you not want to get your money's worth? Fools.

  4. Fun! I agree with most of this, especially Goblet of Fire as the best of the movies. I think it's one of the best book adaptions to film period, not just in the Harry Potter world. That one also has the best music of all the movies.

    1. DKoren, I know, GOF really is just so, so excellent. I was pretty disappointed by the next couple after how fantastic it was -- I was hoping that they'd continue to improve, but they dropped back a few notches instead.

I keep thinking about buying that soundtrack too, but haven't yet. I should, though, because the tracks I know are fantastic.

  5. Yep, have to agree about Goblet of Fire. The movie is absolutely brilliant and my favorite by far. I wish they all could have been that streamlined.

Yes, wayyyyyy too much wandering at the beginning of Deathly Hallows. That book was at least 200 pages longer than it should have been.

And poor Fred Weasley. It breaks my heart when he dies, every time. I can't imagine living as a twin without the second half.

What a fun tag! I may do it too and set it to publish sometime next week. :)

    1. Carissa -- I have this love of streamlined movies, movies with a very direct focus where all the subplots serve the main plot, and that's a huge reason why GOF pleases me.

Much as I love Sirius, much as he's my favorite character, I would probably rather have Fred be not dead, simply because George's pain is so devastating.

I look forward to your version!

  6. Homework. Totally. If you don't do it . . . well, you're just gonna be lost. Oh, and going to class helps too :) At my university, we have a HUGE problem with skipping classes. It's kind of mind-boggling, how many people just don't show up.

I feel that I need to DO SOMETHING to relieve my feelings after that strenuous debate over at Wonderland Creek, so here's the link to an absolutely fantastic P&P 05 music video:

    Seriously. I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

    1. You know, how hard is it to read an assignment? Not hard.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, I'm kind of regretting getting embroiled in the debate on WC, because I've been bogged down in so many over that movie, and I should have known better. I don't know why people who hate that movie are so self-righteous about it -- I've never seen anything like that about any other movie, to be honest. Ridiculous.

    2. Oh, and lovely video, Jessica! Thanks for sharing. All this has accomplished one thing, at least: I'm really in the mood to rewatch this now! Dunno if I'll get to, but I'm in the mood, anyway :-)

    3. I'm in the mood to re-watch it now, too, and so is Rosie McCann (my younger sister's blogging pen name). After we've both watched it again, I'll tell you if I noticed anything new or cool or enlightening :)

Oh, Rosie just pointed out something really neat about the movie that I never really thought about before. You know those scenes where Lizzy is alone and she's reading a book? She does it in the opening sequence, and then again after her quarrel with Mr. Darcy. It's the same book both times, and it looks kind of like the Bible or Milton or something. Rosie thinks--and I think too--that that's supposed to be symbolic of how Lizzy doesn't really have too many people to give her moral guidance (besides Jane), and so she has to kind of figure everything out on her own by reading, reflecting, etc.

    4. Yes, definitely let me know if you and your sister find any more cool nuances like that! I do like that they brought out Elizabeth's love of books that way, and I think Rosie is right, that she's seeking guidance and comfort from them.

    5. Sure! And if you notice anything, please let us know, too :)

  7. This is so great! I am totally with you on the spiders. I rarely watch the second film because of them. (The 6th, too, because of the Aragog burial scene. He's still gross, even when he's dead.)

    1. Thanks, Bookmark Dragon! And yes, why must everyone be obsessed with giant, evil spiders? I can't watch a huge chunk of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug either. Ugh.

  8. This was fun to read! I'm currently reading HP with my husband, so if I remember, I'll try to fill out my own answers when we finish.

And I totally feel the same way you do about Sirius Black <3

    1. Thanks, Maggie! Glad you got a kick out of it. My husband and I are sloooooowly working our way through the HP movies, since he finished reading the books last year, and it's been so much fun to share. We're going to watch Order of the Phoenix next week.

Sirius. He's what made me love the series, to be honest. Until the ending of book 3, I just liked them okay, but when I learned he had been wrongfully imprisoned, BAM! Instant love.
