Whoa, I don't think I saw that coming. I had no idea there was a classic version of The Great Gatsby. It'll be interesting to see what you think.
ReplyDeleteCarissa, it's from 1949, and it was believed entirely lost for decades. But someone found a complete print around 2010 (iirc), and it's been digitally restored and released to DVD. Long and comprehensive review to come! While I was screencapping it last night, I just did the trailer too for fun and thought it was too cool not to share :-)
Delete2012, actually.

ReplyDeleteSarah, okay! You can pick up your tickets at will-call ;-)
DeleteOohhhh, interesting!! :D
ReplyDeleteThe movie certainly is, and I hope my review will be too :-)
DeleteLooks like fun! Ahhhhhhhh, more Alan Ladd . . . ;-)
ReplyDeleteJessica, yes, and yes!
DeleteI saw this in 2014 at the TCMFF at a small venue with a surprise intro by Robert Osbourne and Alan Ladd's son, and it was glorious. R.O. had seen it when he was young and had been looking for it FOR YEARS. :')
ReplyDeleteMillie, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! I can well imagine it was glorious.
DeleteAnd yeah, they only finally found a full print in 2012. Hooray for us!!!!
This is on DVD now?? Wow!
ReplyDeleteJocelyn, YES! I bought this one from Amazon -- says they only have 1 left right now. It has a really nice picture. No extras except the trailer, which runs after the feature, but it doesn't seem to be a bootleg or anything like that. It's very worth the $16, IMHO.
DeleteCool! Added to my wish list. :-) Looking forward to your review!
DeleteTagged you for Five Favorite Couples Tag!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ivy! I'll check it out.
