That last item is going to use up a lot of my time and brain-power, I know, so I'm letting this list be a bit shorter than many of mine!
How about you? Got anything special you'd like to get accomplished this summer?
My summer to-do list definitely include reading The Count of Monte Cristo and getting a good start on my Five Poisoned Apples entry! I would like to see a few more Jane Austen adaptations too - I've seen most of the general favorites, but I have yet to watch any versions of Persuasion or Northanger Abbey, or the 2008 Sense and Sensibility (my interest in that is largely charged by the fact that Dan Stevens is in it, and that Elinor Dashwood is the JA heroine I relate to most).
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you have a TBW shelf! I have a lot of movies on my TBW list, but I don't own many of them already. (Unless you're counting the good number of Hitchcock movies my family owns that I haven't gotten to yet...) I definitely have several TBR shelves, though, and those continue to get bigger. :-)
Claire, The Count of Monte Cristo is my 2nd-favorite book! Is this your first time reading it?

I just saw the 2008 S&S for the first time this spring, and was very favorably impressed by it.
I actually have two shelves full of movies I haven't watched yet, and also a box that has been filled and then has about 40 DVDs piled on top of it. It's getting out of hand. As for my TBR shelves... it's actually a TBR bookcase, and some of the shelves are double stacked. I guess I'm just storing up for when my kids leave home. After all, the youngest will be grown in a mere 13 years, hee.
Yes, this will be my first time reading TCOMC! It's one of my mom's favorites, and both of my parents are big fans of the adaptation with Jim Caviezel. I love reading huge books (I read both Anna Karenina and War and Peace this year, so I don't feel too daunted by this one, haha). I'm excited to dig into it!
DeleteBy the way, even though it's not on DVD yet, I highly recommend putting Their Finest on your TBW list. I went to see it today and it perfectly encapsulated so many of my interests - writing, filmmaking, England, and WWII-era stories. Quite endearing and touching. I think you might enjoy it!

DeleteI'm definitely planning to see The Finest when it comes to DVD! I actually own the soundtrack because the composer, Rachel Portman, is a favorite of mine. Glad to hear a recommendation from someone who's seen it!

ReplyDeleteI want to finish the first draft of my novel, if possible--and write my Snow White story for the contest. I also need to start applying to PhD programs (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!) And there are some cool books I'm looking forward to reading :-)

I've got an idea for how to finish your scarf. What about listening to an audio book while you knit? My mom likes to read out loud, and I'll crochet while she reads. Sometimes we'll stop during the book and talk about different concepts and ideas from the book. I guess and audio book is the next best thing to a relative reading out loud. :-)
Ekaterina, I think I will. I've already crossed one thing off the list, and am hoping to have another crossed off by the end of the week. I kind of let time-consuming projects pile up while I'm teaching my kids, and then once we're done for the year, I have a zillion things to do.

And that's a great idea on the scarf. I do work on it when I'm watching TV show episodes, as I take those less seriously than movies. But I only watch about one a week, sometimes less. I used to knit while my kids ate meals, because they take a lot longer to eat than I do, so I may have to do that again. Or get some books on CD that they would like to listen to with me :-)
The idea of listening with your kids to audio books sounds very fun!!
DeleteEkaterina, I do listen to audio books with my kids in the car when I take them on long trips by myself. We're especially fond of the Ramon books by Beverly Cleary that are read by Stockard Channing! The Henry books read by Neil Patrick Harris are good too, but not quite as good.

ReplyDeleteWell, we're going into winter, and winter for me is focusing on school, so it sort of defeats the purpose of your question. But there are things I want to do/brush up on for the next few months, so I'll just pretend THEY are my "summer plans". ;)
-Get organized with my brother's wedding coming up! (Eeekk! The house is currently in an uproar!)
-Brush up on the violin.
-Finish re-reading "Little Dorrit" and read some books from the library.
-Finish watching Arrow Season 5.
-Finish watching Lark Rise Season 3.
-Finish my Business course.
-Get back to editing my WW2 story.
-Have my lines memorized for the play I've written and am performing with my younger siblings.
-Sew flowers on a scarf my little sister knitted for me.
I've got a huge bunch of things to do (those are a handful) so I really should skedaddle off and do something productive!

Thanks, Miss Meg! I don't know what I'd do without lists. Shopping lists, to-do lists, lists of books I want to read, lists of movies I want to watch, lists of flowers that groundhogs don't eat... and on it goes!

I need to watch more of Lark Rise to Candleford in my spare time. Haha, spare time, what's that? But really, I've watched the first I think 4 or 5 eps and liked it a ton, so I just need to make time for it!
And a play? So cool! I use to write plays for my brother and I. It was just the two of us, so we had to play multiple roles, and I had to write it so we'd have time to change clothes while the other person was like talking on the phone to someone off-stage or whatever. Tricky, but fun!
