1. I'm almost the last Star Wars fan in the universe to see this, but I did finally see it today.
2. I fell in love with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). Quickly, unexpectedly, quietly, terribly.
3. I have movie hangover.
4. I'm probably going to see it again tomorrow, with Cowboy along this time.

:D I realized I can now finish and post my review. I was holding off until you saw it.
ReplyDeleteLove #2, and #3? What a perfect way to word it.
YAY!
DeleteAnd now I can read all the other blog reviews out there, and stop avoiding spoilage in EW and on Pinterest and on FB and... basically, I can re-enter my life. Whew.
And thanks :-)
Cassian is my smol precious cinnamon roll and I LOVE HIM SO SO SO MUCH.
ReplyDeleteI also love Jyn and Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus and K-2S0 and, basically, the entire crew of Rogue One.
It's easily one of the best movies I've seen thus far.
Oooooooooooookaaaaaaaaaaay, then. I have to say that, while there are characters I could think of as small, precious, and cinnamon-roll-like, Cassian Andor is really not one of them, but... whatever floats your boat!
DeleteBut yes, it's an excellent movie. That bit on the beach is some of the most affecting and effective filmmaking I've seen.
I think it depends on how you personally react to him. I find him super sweet and adorable and In Need Of Hugs And Protection--which is why I said that--but not everybody is going to see him that way, of course :-) The important thing is, we both agree he's awesome!
DeleteIsn't it just???? I was absolutely blown away by it. I left the theater kind of in a daze and I didn't really wake up for the next 24 hours.
Well, yes, it's all in the perception. I myself think he's in great need of hugs (as are pretty much all characters I fall in love with), but not of protecting, exactly. Or rather, I would leap to defend him from someone who was saying he was dumb or badly written or pointless, etc, but I don't think of him as needing physical protection. Rather, he is someone I'd trust to protect ME (which is pretty typical for characters I love, as well). But yes! Important part is, we both find him awesome.
DeleteAnd yes, like I said, it gave me a movie hangover. That daze where you can't quite rejoin the real world, and don't want to. (I get book hangovers too.)
I've actually heard a lot of critics saying he WAS badly written, actually. Which makes me FURIOUS.
DeleteWait, what? Okay, NOW I am feeling protective.
DeleteYep. Apparently, they think he was "flat" and didn't get enough backstory to make us care about him.
DeleteThese are probably the same people who whined that Illya Kuryakin had too much backstory and wasn't enigmatic enough in The Man from UNCLE.
DeleteGoodness, I want to see this again, too. Glad you liked it!!
ReplyDeleteNatalie, I'm glad too! Alas, I'm not getting to see it again today because 2 of my kids are sick, and their need for Mommy to be near is greater than my need to see it again. But I hope to see it again next weekend. We'll see.
DeleteAww, I'm sorry about your kids! I hope they're better now, and that you can see it again soon. :)
DeleteThanks, Natalie :-) I managed to see it a second time on Saturday, and loved it so much... and that night came down with the flu my kids had, so I'm in no shape to write a review yet, but one will come! Once I can think clearly for more than a paragraph at a time, lol.
DeleteMy brother and I saw it yesterday for the 2nd time! It's just as good as the first time. Although I admit I almost lost it with Princess Leia's cameo at the end, because of Carrie Fisher.
DeleteI hope your flu is all gone!!
Natalie, I just got back from my third viewing about 20 minutes ago, and wow, this movie certainly improves with each repeat. I find it such a wonderful, engrossing story. And I've teared up over Leia's appearance all three times -- it's so beautiful.
DeleteThe flu is gone! We are flu free. Whew! And I did write a review once I was feeling better :-)
LOL, and then I see that, duh, you commented on my review already. You changed your user icon! It totally flummoxed me!
DeleteThat's so fun!! I love movies that keep getting better each time you watch it. :)
DeleteYay!! So glad you're all healthy now!
Heehee, no problem! I go by user icons, too. It's easy to get thrown off. :)
You're not the last person to see it, because I haven't seen it. I plan to see it on Tuesday, and you're making me even more excited than I was.
ReplyDeleteWoo! I hope you very much enjoy it. Cowboy and I didn't get to go yesterday after all, so he'll probably be the last one to see it, as I don't think there'll be a chance for him to go again until maybe next weekend.
DeleteI highly approve! ;) Looking forward to hearing all your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah :-) I need to see it again before I'll attempt reviewing it.
