The Lyric Medley Tag

SW from A Free Mind tagged me with this a while back.  Thanks, SW!  I looooove learning music lyrics, and both Cowboy and I can generally come up with a song to fit just about any occasion, occurrence, or situation.

The rules:
1. Thank and link back to the person who tagged you
2. Make a collage that represents your taste in music to go along with your post
3. List a song for each of the 10 questions (or make up your own) and include your favorite lyrics
4. Tag at least 5 other bloggers

So here's the collage I came up with that pretty well represents my musical taste.  Yes, Bobby Darin is on there twice because he is such a huge part of what I listen to.

A song that describes me perfectly:  "Happy" (Love Theme from Lady Sings the Blues)  Specifically, of course, I love the Bobby Darin version.

The happiest song I know:  "I Know That My Redeemer Lives."  Now THAT is true and lasting happiness!

A song that makes me want to dance:  "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis.  I love songs with super-complicated lyrics, which I find a fun challenge to learn.  I still haven't quite mastered this one even though I've been working on it, on and off, since that remix came out in like what, 2002?  I get tangled up in this part of the refrain:

Don't procrastinate,
Don't articulate,
Girl, it's gettin' late,
Gettin' upset waitin' 'round.

Favorite Tayor Swift song:  "Love Story" (I'm amused that this tag assumes everyone has a favorite Taylor Swift song.)(It's all Taylor Swift's fault.)

Favorite song from a movie soundtrack: "Finale" from Hans Zimmer's The Lone Ranger score.  I've blogged about this one a few times before, and yeah... it's pure joy for me.

An "I can't even" song:  the theme from The Big Country -- I can't describe it.  Just listen:

Favorite classical song:  "Pas des Deux" from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, possibly.  Or "Rodeo" by Aaron Copeland.  Or the "Lachrimosa" from Mozart's Requiem.  I love a lot of classical music.

New favorite song:  I have had the Postmodern Jukebox running on YouTube a lot lately, ever since Cowboy introduced me to it last week.  And I had never cared for Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River" before, but the PMJ folks added this vamp that grabs hold of me and won't let go, and I have had it on repeat a LOT lately.

Favorite music video:  I've long loved the video for Bon Jovi's "It's My Life."

Favorite song from a musical:  "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" from Hello, Dolly! never fails to brighten my mood :-)

Being something of a rebel, I have NOT included lyrics for each answer, and I'm also not going to tag anyone because I just tagged lots of people in my last post.  If you want to do this, you may consider yourself tagged by me :-)

  1. LOL for the parenthetical on the Taylor Swift question. I could do this one the way you've done it, skipping that impossible thing called lyrics. I was just talking about The Big Country with my dad the other night, cuz he loves that movie and mom and I really don't like it. The music is the best thing about it.

    1. Yeah, I started to do lots of lyrics, but it got long and messy. By all means, do it linking to songs like I did!

And thanks :-) I spent more time than I should have on the collage.

Alan's birthday is tomorrow! Must celebrate!

  2. I was singing "Put on your Sunday Clothes" the other day and it did just that. :-P

  3. What a fun tag!
I might just combine it with the other one you tagged me with (because I'm a bit of a rebel too).
It's always fun to discover new music, I had never heard of "Happy", but it's really beautiful:)

    1. Rose, that would be a fun idea! I sometimes double-up on tags myself.

I'm so excited you liked "Happy"! I could do without the last couple minutes of "Hey Jude"-style chorus, but the rest is magical.

  4. I'm going to try and do this tag--here we go!
    1. Song that describes me perfectly: "Alles Nur in Meinem Kopf," by Andreas Bourani, 'cause I'm kinda a dreamer :-)

    2. The happiest song I know: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . . "Joy to the World," maybe?
    3. Favorite Taylor Swift song? DEFINITELY "Safe and Sound." Not her version, per se, but other people's covers of it, like this one:

    4. Favorite song from a movie soundtrack: Definitely "God Help the Outcasts" from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." My favorite Disney song, period.

    5. An "I can't even" song: "Mijn Leven is van mij," from the musical "Elisabeth." IT'S TOO GOOD I CAN'T EVEN DESCRIBE IT PEOPLE.

    1. Jessica -- oooh, we have lots of different tastes in music. Very interesting to listen to your selections. I really liked "Alles Nur in Meinem Kopf." (Especially, I admit, so I could try to pick out German words. The refrain was basically, "That's always all in my head," ja?)

I just watched the 1939 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame last week for the first time. Neither Cowboy nor I had any clear idea what the plot of the story was, aside from "there's a hunchbacked bell-ringer at the cathedral and there's a gypsy." It was fascinating! Now I actually want to see the Disney one for the first time in my life. I'm very curious to see how they make a movie about one man's frustrated desires ruining everything around him. Anyway, suddenly this song you linked to makes a LOT more sense -- and part of it is pulled right from the 1939! Where the other people there say, "I ask for love. I ask for blah blah blah" -- they did exactly that in the old version.

Whoa. That song from Elisabeth was splendid! I can't even either.

      Nifty Aragorn fanvid :-)

    2. Ja, genau! That's exactly what the refrain is saying :-) It makes me happy because it's all about imagination, and that's what I love to do, so :-)

THE DISNEY VERSION IS SO SO SO GOOD. Obviously, they made it a little "lighter" because it's technically for kids, but it's still a very intense and gritty story and there's SO much emotion and drama. And their portrayal of Frollo--the villain--is absolutely fantastic. Look out for the song "Hellfire," if you've never heard it before . . . it will literally knock your socks off.

    3. Jessica, I'm hoping to watch it before too awful long, because I'm pretty fascinated by this story now. At your suggestion, I found "Hellfire" on YouTube, and wow -- intense!

  5. I LOVE THOSE LYRICS BY ELVIS! *don't articulate, don't ... That finale by Hans Zimmer is awesome. :)

    1. SW, yeah, they're quite the mouthful, but fantastic anyway :-)

And the whole Lone Ranger soundtrack is delightful! But especially "Finale."

    2. I love "Ride" and "Silver" best. :)

    3. Those are my other two favorite tracks! Especially "Ride." Mmmmm, I can listen to that on repeat for a long time.
