Little House Blog Party Tag
Ashley is hosting a Little House blog party on her blog, A to Z all week this week! She's kicked things off with a fun tag to fill out, which I shall hereby do forthwith:
1. How did you discover Little House?
My mom read the books aloud to me and my brother over and over when I was a kid. She also liked the TV show, so I've seen quite many eps of that.
2. Which Little House series have you read? Which are you favorite? (Laura, Martha, Rose, etc.)
I've only read the Laura books. In fact, until a couple years ago, I didn't know more existed!
3. Have you read any "extra" Little House books? (non "canon", cookbooks, song books, craft books, little kid books, etc.)
I've got the cookbook and the song book :-) I've also read some of the picture books to my kids, getting them from the library at various times. And a couple years ago, I gave the Little House Paper Dolls to a young friend of ours -- it was reportedly her favorite gift that Christmas! Also, I have a board game that was based on the TV series. And when I was like 8, we went to the actual site of their dugout home, where my parents bought me a bonnet that I still have.
4. Have you read any biographies/autobiographies about Laura or any of the Little House girls?
I just got the Laura's annotated autobiography Pioneer Girl for Christmas. I've started reading it, but it's kind of large and cumbersome, so I'm having trouble figuring out the best time and place to delve into it.
5. If you could be in any character's place, who would you choose and why?
I've always thought Almonzo's childhood sounded amazing.
6. What's your favorite Little House ship? (AKA couple)
Charles and Caroline, probably.
7. What's your favorite Little House book? Cover?
My favorite book is Little House in the Big Woods, but my favorite cover is the one for By the Shores of Silver Lake.
8. If you could invite any secondary character from any of the Little House books over for dinner, who would you choose and why?
Well, Almonzo and Royal Wilder have always fascinated me. I had a teensy bit of a crush on Royal when I was really little.
9. Have you watched the Little House TV show? If so, do you enjoy it?
I've seen lots of eps, and I greatly enjoy it.
10. If you could watch a YouTube miniseries on any Little House book or series, which would you choose and how would the basic plot go?
Well, I've never actually followed a YouTube miniseries. I've tried bits of a couple, but none have grabbed me. I'm assuming you mean a sort of updated, modernized thing like The Lizzie Bennet Diaries? If so, then I suppose something about Laura's adventures teaching would work -- a young teacher trying to keep order with a bunch of unruly students and find her way as a newly minted adult.
Don't forget to go check out Ashley's blog! She's got a fun giveaway, and will be posting more stuff all week long :-) In fact, today, she posted my guest review of The Little House Cookbook.

I want to check out that song book! Oooh a board game! That sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteThat was part of the problem of Pioneer Girl with me. It's beautiful, but how am I gonna take it anywhere?!
Almanzo's childhood was awesome!
I love the cover for By the Shores of Silver Lake!
Almanzo and Royal together would be awesome!
Vlogs of Laura teaching would be soooo cool! And then we could have trips with Almanzo :D
Thanks again for your post! I enjoyed reading your answers!
Ashley, actually, I'm thinking the only time I'll really be able to read Pioneer Girl is if I DO take it somewhere! I'm thinking next long car ride, I'll start it. At home, I tend to read standing up these days, in the bathroom while brushing teeth or by the kitchen counter while waiting for my kids -- just stolen moments. And a giant tome doth not lend itself easily to such reading.
DeleteThanks for hosting the party! It's lots of fun :-)
I enjoyed reading your answers! And ooohh, "Pioneer Girl" looks really good! I love the cover. :D
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add, I got your letter (with the stickers) yesterday! :D Ah, thank you! It MADE my day (particularly since geometry so WASN'T). I love them. And your card was really pretty! :)
~Miss Meg
Miss Meg, hooray! I'm glad they finally arrived :-D
DeletePioneer Girl IS gorgeous, and the first chapter that I've read so far was fascinating.
I may need to try Pioneer Girl one of these days--it looks fascinating! And it would be super interesting to see how her actual autobiography differs from the semi-autobiographical books she wrote later on . . . I mean, I know the basic idea was still the same, but from what I've read she did change a fairish number of things.
ReplyDeleteLittle House is one of those things that is just always "there," it seems like. I can't imagine my childhood without it :-)
Jessica, it IS fascinating! So far, I highly recommend it.
DeletePioneer Girl looks sounds interesting, it could be fun to know the "real" story of Laura.
ReplyDeleteYou went to the actual place of their home? I am jealous!
Rose, I was pretty little at the time, and all I remember is that there was a big depression in the earth where the dugout used to be. I was unimpressed. I'd love to go back now!!! I think I'd find it more interesting than I did then :-)
DeleteThese books were a big part of my growing up. My brothers and I would make a wagon by pushing 4 dining room chairs together with the piano bench and one of those spring horses in front. I was Ma, my brother was Pa, a couple dolls were Mary and Laura and my little brother was Carrie haha.
ReplyDeleteMy cousin knows the author of the Martha books and her name is actually in the acknowledgements of one of them! I've read the Martha ones-they're pretty good. I read one of the Caroline ones but didn't like it very much.
I think we all wanted Alonzo's childhood!! Mom would read the books aloud to us and whenever we read that one we were always hungry! ;)
DeletePhyl, that's so cool! I used to tramp around in the empty corn fields in the winter and gather up left-behind corn cobs to pretend to make a fire with them like in The Long Winter. I also named all my Barbies after people from those books.
DeleteAlonzo's childhood was too delicious, that's all there is to it. You can tell Laura had a very hungry childhood by how focused she is on food, can't you?
