Spring 2018 To-Do List

Things I want to do before the end of May.

(Source)

~ Be done with the major revisions on Dancing and Doughnuts and close to publishing it

~ Read Loving Isaac by Heather Kaufman

~ Read 2 titles from my Classics Club list

~ Read 3 other books from my TBR shelves

~ Read 3 books from the library

~ Watch 5 movies from my TBW shelves

~ Go see Paul, Apostle of Christ if it's playing anywhere near me

~ Go see Tomb Raider

~ Go see Avengers: Infinity War

(Source)

~ Go see Solo: A Star Wars Story

~ Get back into a blog-reading routine so I quit falling behind on all my favorite blogs

~ Order photos

~ Have my plans for VBS crafts solidified -- it's my first year as leader for crafts, and I have soooooooo many ideas!  Need to pick the crafts and be well into prepping them, as VBS at our church is in early July this year.

~ Plant milkweed and chickory in the gully behind our house to feed butterflies and bees

~ Make a cute terrarium out of the old fish tank I brought home from my parents' house

~ Try to make a ruffled-neck shirt like these out of a t-shirt I have that has a really wide and saggy neck that I hate.

Okay, those are my spring ambitions!  Anything you're looking forward to accomplishing this spring?  Are you excited about any of these movies?

  1. Oh! My town hasn't had a VBS in a few years, but they were always so much fun! Good luck!

    1. MC, I loved VBS when I was growing up :-) I'm so glad our church is able to hold it now so my kids can experience it too! I've been helping in various capacities for the last 5 years, but this'll be the first time I do crafts. So excited!

  2. I'm very, VERY excited for Infinity War, as you know :D I'm not sure how I feel about Solo, yet, except I do know I'm mad that they cast Emilia Clarke to play the love interest.

I'm intrigued to see Paul, Apostle of Christ. I really wanted to see the Mary Magdalene movie, too, but . . . I don't think they're planning to release it in the US :-(

    1. Jessica, me too. And also terrified. But mostly excited.

I've never seen Emilia Clarke in anything, so I don't have any preconceptions about her one way or the other. Does she just annoy you, or something?

    2. Well, yes. I've seen her in a bunch of clips from "Game of Thrones" and also in a bunch of trailers for "Me Before You," when that movie first came out. And . . . her voice kind of irritates me, I guess you could say.

But I'm ALSO disappointed just because she's pretty much the exact same physical "type" as Leia, Rey, Padme, AND Jyn (especially Jyn); and I just want to see a little more variety there. Like at least get somebody who doesn't have brown hair, this time??? If you change nothing else, could you at least change the hair color???

      *sigh*

    3. Jessica, I see. I know how that goes -- I only barely manage to tolerate Cameron Diaz, and only in a few things. It happens.

I had not noticed that! Interesting. I guess it's not something that I particularly cared about? But you know I tend not to focuse a lot on female characters sometimes, lol.

    4. Right! And, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I tend to zero in on the female characters because they're a big part of what makes the movie, or show, or whatever it is, worth watching. No interesting female characters = not on my to-watch list.

  3. Things I'm going to do before Apr. 21. Watch 22 movies and write about them for my blog. And if I have time, maybe eat a meal or two..

    1. Quiggy, WOW! You are ambitious. This is why they invented TV dinners, right? Mmmm, all those tasty preservatives ;-)

    1. Isaac Benjamin, I'm so excited for Infinity War I'm getting a charge out of just sitting here waiting for the new trailer to drop this morning :-o

I was very impressed by Black Panther. It had a gravitas I wasn't expecting. You can read my fuller thoughts on it right here. What did you think of it?

    2. It (Black Panther) has definitely had a lot of cultural impact. Also the Wakandan Aesthetic seems to be an new up-an-coming art style. I thought that it was a bold film that dared to address a serious real-life issue and I could see the point of both the protagonist and antagonist. The story did not have a ton of action, but thats o.k. with me. Overall I enjoyed the movie, even if it is not something little kids would enjoy as much as standard Marvel fare. P.S. I read your analysis post. It was really in depth.

    3. Isaac Benjamin, I agree! It was a bold film that went places I've not seen in a superhero film. I know many superheroes have coming-of-age arcs, but this one felt way more weighty. Plus it had this very sleek, spy-movie thing going on too, which yeah, totally wowed me. I'm hoping to go see it one more time in the theater, we'll see.

  5. Fun to read about your VBS work. I'm in a VBS commitee myself as well! We're only doing it in October, so we still have some time to think about craft and other things.

    1. Birdie, how cool that you're a VBS volunteer too! I've only ever done VBS in the summer, when schools aren't in session, but the weather would be a lot nicer in the fall in a lot of ways!

    2. Yeah, sometimes, though October is also notorious for heavy autumn rains....
