Farewell to My Favorite Actress

1920-2015
Maureen O'Hara has been my favorite actress since I was a kid.  I'm very sad that we have lost her.

John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara sometime during the filming of The Quiet Man (1952)

  1. Aw, I'm sorry your favourite actress died! That's so sad. :-(
(To be honest, I had no idea she was still alive till now, though. :-P)

    1. Naomi, it's pretty incredible that she lived this long, isn't it? She was 95, which is how old my grandma was when she died a few years ago.

  2. I was sad to hear of this too. I loved loved loved her in Miracle on 34th Street--it's one of my family's most very favorite Christmas movies. She was great in the John Wayne films I saw her in too. :'(

    1. Jamie, I love her in MO34S! And I've seen all 5 of her movies with John Wayne, some of them many times -- I love that my favorite actress and favorite actor not only made 5 films together, but were good friends in real life.

    1. Charity, it's a kind of weird feeling because my favorite actor is John Wayne, who died almost a year before I was born, so he's always been gone, she's always been here, and now... it's a new thing to deal with, in a way.

  4. Thanks to my childhood obsession with The Parent Trap, Maureen O'Hara was one of my earliest introductions to "classic" actors. She will be missed. :(

    1. Hayden, I LOVE The Parent Trap, and her in it. I'm thinking I'll do a post next week of my top 10 Maureen O'Hara movies, and that is definitely going to be on it.

  5. I'm sorry she's passed away. She was a beautiful Irish woman and a great actress. She will definitely be missed--but at least we have all her wonderful movies to remember her by.

Wow, what a coincidence--your photo of her is from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and I was just listening to the soundtrack of the Disney version of that same story. (I've never seen either film before--but I already LOVE "God Help the Outcasts." Sooooooooo beautiful.)

    1. Jessica, yes, she was so beautiful, wasn't she?

I haven't seen either version of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" either! Or read the book. One day!

  6. Aww, this is sad. I've seen a few movies with Maureen O'Hara in them. It's sad how few old time movie actors are left. :(

    1. Natalie, I know. I feel like Olivia de Havilland will be leaving us soon too.

    2. That would be very sad. Se's one of my personal favorites. :(

    3. I agree, Natalie. I read a recent interview with her and she sounds so feisty still! My 3-year-old is going as the ODH version of Maid Marian for Halloween.

    4. Aww, really? That's SO sweet! My family and I literally just re-watched that version of Robin Hood!

  7. That top picture is stunning! Is it a promo photo for a movie? I loved Maureen O'Hara in The Parent Trap; she was the epitome of elegance.

    1. Ivy Miranda, it's from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which I haven't seen yet, but I just love that photo.

I love her in The Parent Trap too -- I love how intelligent and determined, but still kind and motherly she is.

  8. She was such a great actress! The first film I ever saw her in was "The Quiet Man", she caught my attention right from the start! I'm so sorry to hear that she has passed away.

I agree, the top picture is lovely!

    1. Annie, I love her in The Quiet Man too. I think the first thing I ever saw her in, though, was The Rare Breed, opposite James Stewart and Brian Keith. Delightful western! Have you seen it?

    2. Not yet! It is on my list of films to watch though, James Stewart and Brian Keith are both excellent actors as well. I will have to watch it ASAP!

  9. I'm sorry she's passed away:( I think I've only seen her in The Quiet Man, but she was beautiful. And I know how weird it feels when one of your favorite actor/other "celebrities" die--I had the same sort of thing happen to me when the author Brian Jacques died a number of years ago. It's just a strange feeling, isn't it?

I love the pictures you chose, especially the one of her and Johne Wayne *sniffle* Again, I'm sorry!

    1. Olivia, I must admit that while this is odd, it at least isn't heartbreaking. I still haven't gotten over Heath Ledger's death, and it's been almost 8 years. Still plunges me into melancholy.

Still, I'm sad that Maureen is gone, because it was so fun knowing she was still around and sharing her experiences. I really want to read her autobiography 'Tis Herself.

    1. Mary, sometimes I'm also astonished to learn some classic actor or actress is still alive. It's always very cool! Like Kirk Douglas -- he'll be 99 next month!!!!!!
