Bucket List Tag

More tag!  Miss Laurie of Old Fashioned Charm and Miss Jane Bennet of Classic Ramblings have both tagged me in a round of Bucket List Tag.  The general idea is to list at least ten things you want to do before you die, and then tag at least five people.  Here goes!

Visit Alaska

Visit the Alamo

Visit the Normandy beaches that were involved in the D-Day invasion

Visit Baker Street in London

Visit Prince Edward Island

Take a cake-decorating class

See the Northern Lights

See Ben-Hur on the big screen

See a John Wayne movie on the big screen

Publish a book

Read War and Peace

Read Don Quixote

Read Moby-Dick

Read all of Bernard Cornwell's books about Richard Sharpe

I hereby nominate:

Ashley G. at [insert title here]
Emily at Classics and Beyond
Hannah at Miss Daydreamer's Place
Jessie at So Much More Than They've Got Planned
Maggie at An American in France
Ruby at We'll See How This Goes

And if anyone wants to do this but didn't get tagged -- I hereby tag you too :-)

  1. I hope you'll get to do all of those things, I really do :) Of all the things that you've put down I'd most like to visit Alaska. My friend's mum went on a cruise along the coast and from the way she described it it sounded absolutely wonderful. The one thing on your list that I have actually done is visit Baker Street.

    1. Thanks! I've wanted to see the Northern Lights and go to Alaska ever since I was a kid. North to Alaska was the first John Wayne movie I can remember seeing, and it was my favorite of his for several years, and it's what initially gave me those two ambitions. Though the movie wasn't filmed there at all, but in California, and I rather unexpectedly did get to visit one of its locations years ago. But I still want to go to Alaska. Maybe on a cruise, one day!

And that's so awesome that you've been to Baker Street! I think I remember you mentioning that on your blog, actually. Groovy cool.

  2. I'm halfway through War & Peace, and I may get married before I finish that book. That's really bad, considering I have no prospects.

Also, do I spy Boromir? ;-)

    1. My husband read W&P while in college, so I figure if he can finish it, I can too.

And yes, couldn't resist including a picture of Sean Bean all scruffified :-9

  3. What a great list! I love how each of your goals are so different from each other, as really best suits a bucket list. Mine would/will probably look more like an Austenite to-do list! (should probably be a little bit concerned about where my priorities lie.)

I know a lot of our local theaters will host old movie showings here and there, but if Hollywood really is running out of ideas (I tend to think so,) they aught to start re-releasing some of the classics like John Wayne's films and Ben Hur to the theaters on a large scale. Sounds like an untapped market for them, and a source of endless delight for the likes of us!

War and Peace reminds me of the time my friend got it in audio-book form to get the most bang for his buck. I think there must have been some free audio-book promotion, and it was the longest book available. He enjoyed it nonetheless. =P

    1. Thanks! These are all dreams and ambitions I've had for a long time, some since childhood.

If you live in California, you get to see LOTS of old movies on the big screen. Those of us who don't... have to wait and hope. I know a couple of years ago, my local theater had Mary Poppins, and last summer it had The Wizard of Oz -- when movies have anniversaries, sometimes they get re-released. So I keep an eye on the movie schedules, and you never know what might happen.

That's funny about your friend! I would have probably done something similar, if I got a free audio book :-)

  4. May I steal "Visit Baker Street" and "Visit Prince Edward Island"? ;) This looks like a fun tag! I've never seen this one before.

Publishing a book. Yay! It will happen. It will. :)

  5. Sorry I didn't reply to this tag earlier! I'm going to cheat and share the link to my current bucket list: a list of things I want to accomplish while I'm 25 :)

I REALLY want to visit PEI as well! Anne of Green Gables is my favorite book so I know I'd be freaking out if I could visit :) Also, Moby Dick really surprised me. I read it a few years ago and really enjoyed it. A large chunk of it is just about the whaling industry, so you can always read the abridged version if you don't care to read about that ;) - Maggie @ An American in France

    1. Hey, that works! Let's see... on your list, I've crocheted an afghan, written a novella, and I'm hoping to start donating blood again -- I used to do it regularly, but when you're pregnant or nursing, you can't. And except for about 6 weeks, I've been either pregnant or nursing or both since January of 2007, except now my youngest has weaned, so... I could donate again!

If I can wade through the sewer section in Les Miserables, I can wade through the whaling industry stuff in Moby Dick -- thanks for the warning, though! That makes me feel like it's much more do-able. I'm great at skimming when need be, lol!
