A New Story Up

A few people have asked recently where they can read things I've written, so I've decided that, whenever I have something new posted, I'll mention it here.

So... I have a new story up!  Most of my Combat! squaddies have read it already, as I wrote it for a challenge a while back, but I finally got around to spiffing it up enough to post it for the whole world to see.  It's called "Lucky You," and you can read it here.  It's pretty short, just 1300 words, and I think it would work fairly well for people who don't have a knowledge of the show, though obviously it would work better for those that do.  It's sort of a tag for the episode "The Bridge at Chalons," which has Lee Marvin as a guest star and is one of my favorite eps.  You can watch the whole ep on YouTube here.  But you don't have to have seen the episode to understand the story (I don't think), you just need to know that it's about American Infantrymen in WWII France shortly after D-DAY.

  1. This kind of news should have always been on here!

Did you kill a recurring character from the show here?

    1. I kind of have this reluctance to toot my own horn. From now on, I'll post about new stories, I promise.

No, Turk isn't a recurring character -- I think Lee Marvin was already too big a name for that. He's only in the one (wonderful) episode.

I actually have a rule about killing off regular characters: I don't do it. And I get kind of really annoyed when other people do. I hate to think how many "Death of Billy Nelson" fanfics I've read -- which are totally justified, I should add, since he's only in the first 2 seasons. But I prefer to think he just got transferred to another outfit for whatever reason, or got a million dollar wound. I'm ridiculously attached to these characters, you see :-)

    2. I shall add that I did write a story where it seems like I killed off the entire squad except for Saunders: "The Better Part of Valor." That's the closest I'll ever come, I think.

  2. No wonder you never read "Measure of a Man"! :)

    1. Yeah... I really hate the death of major characters and avoid reading those stories.

Agree or disagree? That is the question...
